A GLANCE…into My World
1- When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?
Always, I think. The pen and I were devoted companions since childhood. I mainly wrote in French and Spanish in the beginning. For me, it was a vital way to express my thoughts and feelings, and record my dreams. At that time, it was simply a hobby...
2- Did you always want to write romance?
In the beginning, I wrote weekly articles on Preventive Parenting for a newspaper. Then, one day, I woke up with that nagging idea to write down what was ailing me at the time. And here I was launched into written a fictious story and I just couldn’t stop! When I was done with Bargain For Love, I knew what I have to do next: Struggle to get it published. While I initiated the hard path of contacting literary agents and publishers, my second book started to take shape and colors. Meanwhile, I enrolled in several writing classes to hone my skills and learn the craft of writing.
3- Who is the publisher of your first novel?
My first novel, Bargain for Love, is a contemporary romance that calls for freedom of choices. It tackles hidden facts of an unusual culture in a colorful harmony of fantasy and reality. Although a couple of agents proposed to represent my book, I chose to self-publish it with Trafford Publishing. That was my first baby and I worked hard in delivering it to life. I wanted to have a say on the cover and the inside layout. Trafford offered me the possibility. I have a particular idea about the cover design that I developed in my computer before handing it over to my book designer who apparently did a brilliant job.
4- What is your goal with regard to your writing?
I’m a realistic person despite my gypsy side that rules my imagination and my writing creativity. I’m still to see the readers’ response to both my books. One thing is sure, I can’t stop writing. My third book is on the way. I don’t aim for fame. My goal is to share with readers around the world intriguing situations while keeping to the reality of facts. I would love to receive letters from fans and hear their feedback.
5- Do you plot as your write or are you a detailed plotter?
Honestly? Once my gypsy muse switches on and fires up, I allow it to take the helm of my creativity. Usually, it’s a vital scene that bursts out all of a sudden and I rush to write it down. And this could happen anytime, I tell you! That gypsy in me is as untamed as it can be! ( Big grin!) Then I go around laying the six main scenes. It’s hard to be a detailed plotter when you have a compelling imagination. Sometimes, I’m hardly able to control it. However, as I develop, I realize that I need to plot the entire story. That requires some changes in the movement of the story. My writer’s instructors were adamant on that particular point, so I do revert to outline the plot after the new born scenes are written. However, since all what I wrote so far are inspired by true events, and several of my characters live and breathe, I move on smoothly in honing the plot.
6. When you're not writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
The fashion field is a very fascinating venture that could be overwhelming sometimes. But I do have those times of “escape” where I leave for the mountains in search for peace and meditation. I love reading, swimming, horseback riding, traveling, and convening with new cultures.
7. What is something about you that readers would be surprised you do?
I rely in God immensely and have a strong Faith in His Loving presence in my life.
8. Which of your books did you most enjoy writing?
Both have a special place in my heart. Now, Sealed By Revenge – also published By Trafford Publishing - had me more intensely involved. That book went through several settings, unveiled preconceptions on certain cultures and characters, and gave tribute to the “Cedar’s Land” which contradictory nature has always intrigued me. True, I went strong on some scenes yet they aren’t far from reality. I incorporated love and romance in some strong events any one of us could be living. That’s it. The story is filled with facts, socio-political and contemporary/urban events, and like Bargain For Love, an insight on the illicit backlash of oppressed women and cultural mentality of a male predominant society. What I consider fantastic in Sealed by Revenge is Elyssa’s unexpected reaction when she comes to confront the crucial moment of her revenge, but most of all the acceptance of Rakan and Elyssa’s love to each other despite what separate them of cultural and religious issues.
9. What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment as a writer and why?
Being able to spread the messages I have in my heart and share my fantasies with other readers. Keeping the storyline real within fiction was my priority, because many things were made up.
10. Do you like communicating with your readers? How can a reader contact you?
Yes! I’d love to hear from my readers and their feedback. E-mail is easiest info@ellyroyce.com I will answer everybody!
11. What particular message you would like to give to your readers?
Peace and Love! Live brightly with peace and love in your heart and confer them to everyone around you. These are the most gratifying feelings we could ever experience and share. And, most importantly, learn to forgive!
