My Characters and I...

1- The question everyone wants to ask—do you base your characters on real people?

Some, yes!  If they might be recognized for being known personalities, I mask them in a way or another by altering their identities a bit here and there. Some are just the work of my imagination.

2- What inspired you to write Bargain for love?

Within the scope of my fashion experiences and through my journeys to several countries, I get to meet a lot of "character’s models", unusual societies, interesting situations and fascinating experiences.  But mainly, there are those social issues dear to me that I wish to tackle through the fictious story.  I aimed at integrating them into the context of relationship/love balance.

3- Why Bargain for love?

I wrote Bargain For Love in a subtle call for integrity in relationships, freedom of choices, emancipation from abuse and oppression, and acceptance of love and sensuality.  There are women around the world who confront many impasses in their striving to unchain their existence from abuse and exploitation, being in their relationships or in their cultures. I intended for the storyline to persuade them to empower their own conflicts and acknowledge their birthright for happiness. Bargain For Love is a faction book I wrote for them.

4- How does Elyssa Di Spadafiera, the heroine of Sealed By Revenge, differ from Serena Valiente, your heroine from Bargain For Love?

Elyssa is a totally different kind of woman.  Serena is soft, sweet and of sober attitude. She’s a normal working woman among others. Her background is different also. Her conflicts root deep into an abused marital relationship and impede her to accept the new love of a man who had deceived her from the start. Elyssa is younger yet strong and proud, with a concealed aspiration to find true love with a man who would love her for herself and not for what she represents of wealth and title.  A heavy background of brave ancestors influences her behaviour that has a lot to do with the turning points of the storyline.  Serena runs from her problem with Warren until she reassesses her own perceptions with the women behind the veil. In opposite, Elyssa confronts hers with obstinate determination. However, they both attain exceptional love.

5-: Sealed By Revenge is based on a terrible assault on Elyssa.  What was the inspiration for this dramatic, very strong episode?

A person I know got enmeshed in a precarious situation with an admirer that turned wicked and perverse. Part of the incidents Elyssa undergoes with her admirer is real.  The assault, though fictious, could occur in reality, and I wanted to explore the terror and downfall it generates, and find out how Elyssa manages to deal with the consequences and her obsession for revenge. I believe it’s important in life that if you confront such situation, you must be able to face it, not with the cowardice of revenge, but with the bravery of forsakenness.  And Elyssa does just that!

6-: You use Sheik Rakan again in your second novel but as a fascinating character. What made you switch him in Sealed by Revenge?

Well, I first wrote about Rakan in Bargain For Love as a seductive VIP trying to win over Serena’s heart. Then he became the main male character of Sealed by Revenge, the very handsome, mysterious, good-looking rescuer, and I decided that this man had a fascinating mystery, and a heart thirsty for love, and it turns out he did!

7-: Your two novels feature wealthy and powerful people, some even unattainable. What intrigues you about this?

We tend to assume that rich, powerful folks do not share common people’s conflicts. We assume they are set apart and live happily and satiated, which is not true! Their hearts are as considerately human, and their needs for love as acute.  It is a subject I know quite well, and I find very interesting to unmask such vulnerability and reveal their human side.

9-: What’s in store after Bargain for Love and Sealed by Revenge?

I’m writing another book that is very special to me. I’m quite emotionally involved in this one, and many times I had to stop writing the scenes to take a break.  It’s a story of love and violence in a country shattered by a recent war which true events and sturdy scenes inspired my storyline. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy Bargain for Love and Sealed by Revenge.

10- What are your other line of work at the moment?

I am a free lance editor for New Editing Assistance & Translation (www.neat-edu.com) and I enjoy it very much. I get to read all these manuscripts, build a relationship with the writers while editing, come to know his insights, their personality and reasons behind the books, and it's fascinating.
